The Bodock Post eNewsletter
Welcome to The Bodock Post

The Bodock Post is a free monthly eNewsletter, conceived by Carl Wayne
Hardeman, Ralph R. Jones, and Wayne Carter, all of whom are "rooted in the land
of the hanging grapes," which is to say Pontotoc and Pontotoc County Mississippi.

We chose to name our publication, in part, to pay homage to the tree our forbears
called "bodark," or bodock, from the French term "bois d'arc," meaning wood of
the bow, a  tree, whose wood is so hearty it almost never decays; it's wood was
prized by the Indians for making bows and war clubs. Its fruit is known locally as
bodock balls or horse apples, but other areas know it as hedge apple or Osage
orange.
