The Bodock Post eNewsletter
Welcome to The Bodock Post
The Bodock Post is a free monthly eNewsletter, co-edited by Ralph R. Jones, and
Wayne Carter, both of whom are "rooted in the land of the hanging grapes," which
is to say Pontotoc and Pontotoc County Mississippi.
We chose to name our publication, in part, to pay homage to the tree our forbears
called "bodark," or bodock, from the French term "bois d'arc," meaning wood of
the bow, a tree whose wood is so hearty it almost never decays; its wood was
prized by the Indians for making bows and war clubs. Its fruit is known locally as
bodock balls or horse apples, but other areas know it as hedge apple or Osage
orange.
